FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS & RAPESEED OIL
What makes Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil a healthy choice?
Borderfields Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil is naturally low in saturated fat, containing the lowest saturated fat level of any cooking oil, even lower than olive oil. It’s also rich in heart healthy unsaturated fats, which help support healthy cholesterol levels.

Is cold pressed rapeseed oil good for heart health?
Cold Pressed Rapeseed oil is high in omega 3, which is linked to a reduced risk of heart and circulatory diseases, according to the British Heart Foundation. Its high monounsaturated fat content also supports healthy cholesterol levels.
Can I use cold pressed rapeseed oil for high temperature cooking?
Yes, cold pressed rapeseed oil has a high smoke point, meaning it maintains its nutritional profile and remains stable during frying, roasting, and sautéing. This makes it a versatile choice for everyday and high heat cooking.

Is Borderfields Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil produced in the UK?
Yes. Rapeseed oil is grown and produced in the UK, making it a sustainable, local alternative to imported oils. Choosing Borderfields supports British farmers and reduces food miles.
What makes cold pressed rapeseed oil different from refined rapeseed oil?
Cold pressed rapeseed oil is extracted without heat or chemicals, preserving its natural flavour, nutrients, and golden colour. Refined oils, on the other hand, undergo additional processing, such as degumming, neutralising, bleaching and deodorising. It’s in these stages that heat and chemical solvents are used to refine the oil which removes nutrients, removes flavour and removes the colour.
Our rapeseed oil is also filtered 5 times for its unique clarity and taste.

Is rapeseed oil safe regarding erucic acid and inflammation concerns?
Yes modern rapeseed oils are almost entirely free of erucic acid, making them safe to use. Earlier concerns about omega 6 related inflammation are also outdated; recent studies show rapeseed oil’s omega3/6 balance actually contributes to lower inflammation and heart disease risk.
Does cold pressed rapeseed oil contain omega 3 fatty acids?
Yes. Rapeseed oil has one of the best natural balances of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids among cooking oils, making it a smart choice for supporting heart and circulatory health. This balanced profile is one of the reasons rapeseed oil is recommended as part of a heart healthy diet.

Is rapeseed oil suitable for a plant-based or vegan diet?
Absolutely. Rapeseed oil is 100% plant-based, made solely from the seeds of the rapeseed plant. Because it’s rich in healthy unsaturated fats, grown in the UK, and free from animal derived ingredients, it’s an excellent addition to vegan and vegetarian cooking, from roasting and sautéing to salad dressings and drizzling.
